FUNCTION
Domestic helpers work with the elderly, families, the sick and the disabled, who have difficulty performing everyday tasks. Their role is to help people remain at home by preserving and stimulating their independence, and ensuring their quality of life. Family carers act in the best interests of their beneficiaries, respecting their freedom of choice.
Missions - Services at the beneficiary's premises :
- Support beneficiaries in accordance with the assistance plan drawn up by the social worker.
- Help with daily living: laundry care, ironing, shopping, mending, preparing and helping with meals, routine maintenance of living areas, help with getting around, pre- or post-natal assistance, etc.
- Health role: grooming, changing incontinence pads, hair care, assistance with dressing, ensuring that medication is taken correctly, etc. (These acts are carried out as part of daily living assistance and it is forbidden to provide technical nursing care).
- Educational role: advice on healthy living and adapting the home, support for families, assessing and stimulating potential, etc.
- Relational assistance: listening, identifying difficulties, support through presence, dialogue, support in palliative care, etc.
- Social assistance: administrative formalities, help with budgeting, referral to appropriate services, etc.
- Encourage beneficiaries to develop, maintain or restore their independence. Integrate its action into a preventive framework. Provide support for close carers.

Level of study :
Vocational secondary education - 3rd level: family and health auxiliary certificate, family assistant certificate, care assistant certificate, nursery nurse certificate, aspirant nursing certificate

Centre d'éducation et de formation en alternance (work-linked education and training centre): same certifications as for full-service teaching
