Since Saturday 1 November, legislation has changed for home care nurses. For a whole range of treatments, they no longer need to have a prescription. medical prescription to have their patient reimbursed.
As our Director of Nursing, Edgard Peters, explains, «the changes bring real recognition of the work and autonomy of the home care nurse».». A nurse in a hospital or nursing home would not need a prescription for the same care. In the final analysis, therefore, this is a alignment within the profession itself, but which carries a great deal of meaning and recognition for our homecare profession.
«Let's take the example of a patient who has a tracheotomy and needs his airways suctioned when necessary. Previously, a home care nurse had to have a prescription from the patient's doctor to carry out the treatment. From Sunday, if the nurse visits the patient and the patient needs suctioning, he or she will be able to act directly and effectively to relieve the patient.» explains Edgard.

But let's be clear, this is in no way a measure that creates a rift between doctors and nurses. «On the contrary» our director assures us. «Collaboration between nurses and doctors is and remains key to optimal patient care».» he concludes.
The various players in the medical and homecare world form a team that works together to support each patient in the most effective and caring way possible. These new measures are a further step forward in building well-being at home together.
